What is REAL Vision?

REAL Vision is a Reading Enhancement Accommodative Lens vision correction procedure incorporating multi-focal intra-ocular lens (IOL) technology that results in patients having permanent close up, as well as distance vision. REAL Vision gives you the close up vision you remember having when you were younger! With REAL Vision you'll be able to see the way you want to see. Near, intermediate, and distance effortlessly, and naturally! And you'll be able to see all these things, without lenses of any kind!

What is a multi-focal IOL?

The multi-focal IOL is the most amazing scientific discovery in recent years! Multi-focal lenses have the unique ability to focus on objects at close up as well as distance. This provides the ability to see things clearly close up, as well as to see things at a distance, without bifocals, progressive lenses, or reading glasses. Other IOLs that provide near vision are called "accommodating IOLs". These are mechanical lenses that move slightly within the eye to provide near vision. These lenses require extensive eye exercises for several months before near vision is achieved. Although we have accommodating IOLs available, we find that most of our patients prefer instant near and distance vision that the multi-focal lens provides.

The multi-focusing technology is the most advanced technology employed in the REAL Vision procedure.

How does REAL Vision work?

REAL Vision is natural. There is nothing artificial, and there are no side effects! When you look at an object up close, (such as the newspaper) the multi-focal IOL will automatically focus the object onto your retina. You don't have to do anything to make the lens work, and since there is nothing mechanical about the lens, there is nothing to wear out or get weak with old age.

So it works just like you want it to work; the way you used to be able to focus when you were younger! It provides excellent close up vision for reading books and the newspaper, as well as excellent distance vision for driving, sports, and sight seeing. It also provides functional intermediate vision so you can see the computer, the dashboard, and yourself in the mirror. It's natural, its permanent, and it is wonderful!

What is the surgical procedure?

The REAL Vision procedure is very similar to cataract surgery, and is performed in an outpatient surgical facility. It is accomplished on one eye at a time with a two-week time interval between each procedure. The actual surgery usually takes less than 15 minutes. Once the surgery is complete, drops will be placed in your eye to prevent infection, and decrease inflammation. A clear patch will be placed over your eye and someone will need to drive you home.

Your close up and distance vision will usually be good the day after surgery. However, your vision will improve over the next week or two, and will dramatically improve after the second eye procedure is accomplished.

How good is REAL Vision?

Each of our IOLs have been designed to focus at near and at distances. While virtually everyone will experience a significant improvement in their near and distance vision, some people will not see perfectly at all distances.

The multi-focal intra-ocular lenses we use in the REAL Vision procedure are FDA approved and provide excellent distance, and near vision as well as functional intermediate vision. Our experience has shown us which lens to use for each patient depending on various visual and physical factors.

What is most exciting is that all of our patients can pass their drivers test, can read books, newspapers and magazines, and most of our patients lead lives of total visual freedom without the need for glasses or contact lenses, ever!

Multi-focal IOLs have already changed the lives of thousands of people in America, and around the world. It will change your life too!

Imagine being able to look up a word in the dictionary, or a listing in the telephone directory!

When specifically asked,
"How often do you wear spectacles,"

80% of bilaterally implanted subjects responded, "Never."

17% of bilaterally implanted subjects responded, "Occasionally."

The AcrySof ReSTOR IOL by Alcon is the multi-focal IOL that is prescribed for most REAL Vision patients. For detailed information about the AcrySof ReSTOR lens, click here:
